Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterium that causes infections in different parts of the body. It is tougher to treat than most strains of Staphylococcus aureus (see « Staphylococcus aureus ») because it is resistant to an increasing number of commonly used antibiotics. MRSA infections range from harmless to life-threatening. MRSA is also colloquially called a « Superbug ».
