Staphylococcus aureus
« Back to Glossary IndexAlso called « Staph », a Gram-positive bacterium and is frequently found in the nose, respiratory tract and on the skin. It is a common cause of skin infections such as abscesses, respiratory infections such as sinusitis and food poisoning. Antibiotic resistant strains of S.aureus such as the Methicillin-resistant S. aureus is an increasing worldwide problem in clinical medicine (see above « MRSA »).
